Rooks is the fifth album from Austin Texas's Shearwater, which is the 'side project' of Okkervil River's Will Sheff (who will appear higher in this list), and Jonathan Meiburg of Kingfisher. Their music is folk inspired, often with rich string orchestrations that illustrate their lyrical take on the torch song or laments on nature. Sheff's voice powers through the material with serious intent, impressively ranging from barrotine to falsetto at the drop of a hat.Highlights:
