Noughties #56: Akron/Family "Akron/Family" (Young God, 2005)

Another debut release from another Brooklyn band. Like their contempories, Akron/Family are interested in pushing the boundaries of pysched-out alt-folk. Amidst these unusual and highly worked song structures are some very sweet, and simple melodies. It's this juxtoposition that gives the album it's strength. Running, Returning is perhaps, one of my favourite tracks of the decade, on any album. It's like three songs for the price of one - each fantastic. - before and again - i'll be on the water - running, returning
